The Preposition - What It Is and How to Use It


In English grammar, a preposition plays very important role. It connects the noun or pronoun with the other parts of a sentence to make it meaningful. There are many prepositions which might be used to speak about time, area & direction of a noun or pronoun, few of them are common.




The quick description approximately Prepositions & its kind is given below.

Preposition:

It is a word used to expose courting of a noun & pronoun with other part of a sentence to provide it a meaning. It is essentially used to talk about the time, place & path of a noun or pronoun. It can be used with all the Tenses.

Types of Preposition:

There are several Types of Preposition but i can explain some points.

1) Preposition of Time: It is used to expose the time at which any occasion or motion happened, show up or will manifest.

Example: after, around, before, between, by, during, for, past, since, until, within, in, at, on

While others may be used easily, however the usage of at, in & on is quite confusing. The distinction between them is given below.

AT: It is used to talk about a selected or unique time.

Examples:

We will visit the park at 6:00 PM.

We will meet at dinner.

ON: It is used to speak about precise days & dates.

Examples:

The earth day is widely known on 22nd April.

I will throw a party on my birthday.

IN: It is used to speak about or display the period of time like period of days, weeks, months, years, seasons etc.

Examples:

We are planning to go to Europe in summers.

He might be lower back in a couple of days.

Exceptions:

In English we say inside the morning, within the afternoon, within the evening as these are the periods of a day but we by no means say in the night, instead we use "at night".

2) Preposition of Place: It is used to talk about the area of a noun or pronoun.

Examples: abroad, above, around, behind, among, IN, AT, ON etc.

The distinction within the utilization of in, at, on is given below.

AT: It is used to speak approximately a selected place

Examples:

I arrived at paintings early morning.

We stayed at Queen's resort.

ON: It is used to reveal or talk approximately a surface as a location.

Examples:

The rug is lying on the floor.

The painting is hanged at the wall.

IN: It is used to talk about the location that is enclosed in a boundary.

Examples:

The youngsters are playing in the park.

The toys are kept within the cupboard.

3) Preposition of Direction: It is used to reveal the course.

Examples: to, toward, through, into, next to, opposite, far, near, every
